Amanda Mathena

Amanda joined the Alliance as the database coordinator in April 2009, with seven years' experience in database coordination. Prior to working at the Alliance, she worked as a product data coordinator at Nautilus, Inc.
An Oregon native, Amanda was born and raised in the Columbia Gorge. When not wrangling data, she enjoys reading, camping in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and spending time with family and friends.

Bernie Bottomly

Bernie Bottomly is an Oregon native, born and raised in Beaverton. He attended the University of Oregon where he earned his B.S. in Political Science.
He served as District Administrator for U.S. Congressman Les AuCoin for almost a decade with responsibility for natural resource, transportation and economic development. He also served as Legislative Director for Tri-Met with responsibility for state and regional legislative affairs, regional transportation finance and policy.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Bernie was the Director of Community Services at Pacific Power with responsibility for community services in Oregon, Washington and California.
Outside of the Alliance, Bernie volunteers on the Board of Directors for Oregon Mentors, and the YWCA.
In his free time, you can find Bernie looking for good rocks to climb, traveling around the world, and spending time with his family and friends here in Portland.

He is passionate about providing young people with the opportunity to succeed as they transition to adulthood. As the BizConnect Coordinator, Billy works to connect businesses and young people for the benefit of both.
In his free time Billy enjoys spending time with his wife and little boy. He enjoys cooking, camping, gardening and watching his favorite sports teams (Phillies, Eagles and Blazers).

BJ was born and raised in McMinnville but now lives in Sherwood on seven acres. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Carly Riter

Carly Riter is the Government Relations Manager at the Portland Business Alliance. Carly’s portfolio focuses on a wide range of policy issues related to economic development, including transportation, real estate development, sustainability, and land use planning. Her educational and professional focus has been on downtown revitalization and urban development. Starting her career in downtown urban planning and development by studying urban design in Florence, Italy, interning as an advocacy manager for San Diego’s Downtown Gaslamp Quarter Business Association, and working for Downtown Portland’s Business Improvement District in various capacities of research, policy analysis, and advocacy, Carly has significant knowledge of the challenges facing downtowns and is impassioned to help improve their economic, cultural and civic significance in American cities.
Carly earned a B.A. in Geography from Portland State University and is earning her Masters in Urban Planning from Portland State University. An outdoors enthusiast, Carly spends her free time in the mountains skiing, hiking, and climbing.

Before joining the Alliance, Christine was the senior event manager at Imark Communications, producers of Information Technology Expositions and Conferences (ITEC). Christine also worked for Nordstrom in management and sales for 14 years.

Doug Badger 
Director of Pacific Northwest International Trade Association (PNITA)

Doug Badger is the executive director of the Pacific Northwest International Trade Association (PNITA) and president of Western Strategies L.L.C., a government affairs and public relations firm. Doug has more than 15 years of experience in government and politics, and served as executive director of the Bush/Cheney campaign in the state of Oregon in 2004. Prior to running the Bush campaign in Oregon, Doug was a senior aide to the United States Trade Representative in the Executive Office of the President (George W. Bush). During his 10-year career in Washington, DC, Doug served as both the Vice President and President of the Oregon State Society.
Doug is a seventh-generation Oregonian and graduated from the University of Oregon before moving to Washington, D.C. He now resides in Portland with his wife, Cindy, their daughter Cassie, and son Mickey.

Kae joined the Portland Business Alliance in 1990 as a Validation Clerk. She then worked as a Receptionist/Secretary until 1994 when she began working as the Legal Assistant to Downtown Deputy District Attorney Laurie Abraham.
Kae reviews and prepares case files on misdemeanor criminal cases in the downtown area for the Downtown DA. She also staffs the Downtown Security Network monthly meeting and maintains the Downtown Community Public Safety Office, working closely with the Alliance, the Portland Police Bureau and the DA's Office.

Karen has been using her skills in human resources at the Portland Business Alliance and Portland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce since 1997. Karen has been working in human resources since 1986. She decided to move from New York to Portland after riding her bike across the country. Prior to her work at the Alliance, Karen worked for Red Lion Hotels, now under Hilton ownership.
Outside the office, Karen volunteers at her daughters school. Her daughters are involved in soccer and ballet, and Karen spends her free time supporting these activities. She graduated from Lehigh University with a double major in finance and economics.

Katie joined the Alliance in May of 2005 to help manage branding and maintain the Alliance Web site. She coordinates and produces all print collateral, publishes electronic publications and manages all web projects. Prior to working for the Alliance, she worked for Portland Public Schools for more than 4 years doing print and web design in their IT and Communications departments.
Katie graduated from Portland State University in 2001 with a degree in Graphic Design. In her free time she enjoys music, reading, cooking and working on her house.

Lisa Frisch

Lisa Frisch joined the Alliance as the Downtown Retail Development Manager in 2007. Lisa has an extensive background in retail and marketing, including nearly 10 years with Saks Fifth Avenue, both in Portland and at its corporate headquarters in New York City. She served Saks as Director of Local Marketing and Selling Events, where she created and executed event and marketing strategies for 62 stores nationwide, encompassing trunk shows, personal appearances, fashion shows, store openings, product launches, charity functions, community outreach programs, credit card loyalty programs, and magazine partner events to further the corporate brand image.
Lisa is a graduate of Sunset High School and received her degree from Lewis and Clark College in Business and Administrative Studies. Lisa enjoys being back in Portland and exploring all of the things the city has to offer. When she's not conducting "market research" (her euphemism for shopping), she may be found out and about in downtown Portland, dining with friends, sipping coffee, or catching the latest independent movies at Fox Tower.

Megan Doern

As Vice President of Communications and Programming, Megan is responsible for all Alliance communications, events and its Leadership Portland program. Her communications work includes media relations, Web management and other electronic communications. Megan and the events team put on almost a hundred events each year giving members the opportunity to grow their network, learn about an issue or sharpen a skill. She also oversees the Alliance's professional development and civic engagement program, Leadership Portland, and a new initiative, EMERGE, targeting Portland's emerging business leaders.
She joined the Alliance from FD Dittus Communications, a public affairs firm in Washington, D.C. Megan began her career in communications working for the U.S. Senate and then for PG&E Gas Transmission Northwest in Portland, Ore. She is a graduate of Willamette University.

Mike Kuykendall

Mike Kuykendall is vice president of Downtown Services and Central City for the Portland Business Alliance and is the President of the Downtown Portland Business Improvement District (BID). He manages all BID operations, including crime prevention and public safety; cleaning and maintenance services; retail development; marketing; holiday lighting; and the Sidewalk Ambassador program. He also oversees the Central City Committee and Public Safety, Marketing, Development and Downtown Retail Council sub-committees.
Mike is a native of Indiana and received his B.A. in Psychology from DePauw University and M.S. in Counseling from Indiana State University. After attending Northwestern School of Law, he served as a Deputy District Attorney in the Multnomah County, Oregon District Attorneys Office for 11 years. From 2000-2005 Mike was Director of the National Center for Community Prosecution (NCCP) at the American Prosecutors Research Institute in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mike has lectured extensively and continues to be a resource for prosecutors, police, and community and municipal leaders in the area of Business Improvement Districts and public safety.

Mirabai Vogt

Mirabai Vogt joined the Alliance team as in intern in November 2009 and as a full-time staffer in January 2010 working in the Communications and Public Relations departments. She will be working with media, coordinating and writing external communications and managing public policy communications to members.
Mirabai grew up in a rural town near the Klamath River in northern California. She attended the University of Hawaii and received a BA in Journalism. Mirabai lived in Hawaii for eight years, where she met her fiancé. She moved back to the Pacific Northwest to attend the University of Oregon in Portland, and she will graduate with a Master's Degree in Strategic Communication in June 2010. She enjoys traveling, reading, outdoor activities, cooking, playing piano and socializing.

Norm Sharp

Norm Sharp joined the Alliance in February 2008 as the Director of Downtown Clean and Safe. He is responsible for programs involving the security, safety and cleanliness in the Business Improvement District (BID). He also oversees the Portland Ambassador Program and the BID's involvement in the Westside Community Court.
Norm grew up in the Tigard area and after military service became a Portland Police Officer, retiring as a Lieutenant after 25 years. His last assignment was as a Shift Lieutenant at Northeast Precinct prior to retiring in 2002. After leaving the Bureau, Norm worked for Portland Patrol Inc. as the contract security supervisor, and he brings the downtown security experience into his position with the Alliance.

Peggy Anderson

Peggy Anderson joined the Alliance team as a Business Development Manager in 2007. Peggy has been serving as the President of Nob Hill's Neighborhood Business Association for four years and served on the board of the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations for three years. In her position at the Alliance, Anderson assists new members to learn about all the Alliance has to offer, as well as helping existing members get the most from their membership.
Peggy has also worked for Pendleton Woolen Mills as assistant blanket division manager, as a second grade teacher for eight years, and various sales positions. In her free time, she enjoys golf, tennis, cooking and power walking.

Robert Lawrence

Robert is originally from England. He moved to the United States in 1981. Before coming to the USA, Robert was a test pilot for a British aircraft company. A pilot since 1974, Robert is currently an active duty pilot with the U.S. Civil Air Patrol, and he regularly performs search and rescue missions in Oregon.
Before joining the Alliance, Robert worked for Intel. As the Alliance's Information Technology Manager, he oversees all aspects of technology at the Alliance.

Robin Selig

As a staff accountant Robin administers the Payroll and Accounts Payable functions. She came to the Alliance in March 2004 with more than 30 years of accounting and payroll experience including 10 years as Accounts Payable Supervisor for Kaiser Permanente's Northwest Region.
During her "midlife transformation," Robin attended a seminary for three years and became a licensed New Thought minister. She specializes in ministering through music and has written numerous spiritual songs, some of which are on her CD, "Sweet Fire." Some of her songs are sung in Unity and other New Thought churches in the Portland area and around the country.

Prior to working for the Alliance, Sandra worked in retail at Meier & Frank for 24 years as a Buyer's Assistant and Sales Associate. Sandra joined the Portland Business Alliance as the president and chief executive officer on August 1, 2004. As the president, Sandra is leading the organization to ensure the economic vitality of the Portland Metropolitan region and downtown Portland. She is the Alliance's primary face to the community and is active on several volunteer boards.
Sandra currently serves on the Big Brother Big Sister of Metro Portland Board, Leaders Roundtable, Oregon Mentors Leadership Council, Portland Oregon Visitors Association Board, Pioneer Courthouse Square Board, University of Oregon Business School Advisory Council, and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Board. She's a senior fellow for the American Leadership Forum, Oregon chapter, and is active at her son's school.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Sandra worked in the energy industry for 20 years, serving in senior management roles with PacifiCorp and PG&E Corporation. Earlier, she was a reporter for The Oregonian and The Seattle Times. Sandra holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and German from the University of Oregon. She lives in southwest Portland with her son, Richard.

He brings with him over 20 years of sales and networking experience.
During his time off he enjoys the great outdoors in Oregon (kayaking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, fishing) and loves to travel abroad.

Trish Presting

As the Information Center coordinator, Trish is invaluable in providing resources to the community, as well as other Alliance staff. Trish has been with the Alliance (formerly the Portland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce) for more than 25 years. Trish's dedication and knowledge enable her to answer approximately 300 calls a day.
Before joining the Alliance, Trish served in the U.S. Army. In her free time, Trish enjoys gardening and crafting. Her two daughters live in the Portland region, and her son lives in San Diego. Trish studied business administration at Clackamas Community College.
