At ESCO Corporation, a global manufacturer of engineered metal wear parts and components for industrial applications, sustainability is a shared ESCO value from plant to office. ESCO Corporation is an environmentally responsible company that encourages sustainable practices and complies with - and often surpasses - all local environmental regulations. ESCO's goal is to leave a minimal footprint on the global environment and ensure the well being of our employees and neighbors. Through innovative product design, close control of production processes and continuous improvement of material reuse and recycling, ESCO incorporates environmentally conscious planning into all processes.

Our manufacturing facilities use current emission control technologies and equipment to the benefit of all of our employees and the communities in which the company operates. As a steel foundry, ESCO's manufacturing processes employ the practice of recycling scrap steel into new proprietary products. The sand that is used to form the molds to cast our products is internally recycled and reused in the process until the physical sand characteristics are no longer viable for forming molds. In addition, alternative uses for the resulting sand dust are being investigated for external reuse as a new product ingredient. Both non-contact and contact process cooling water is recycled through cooling towers for unlimited recycling and reuse. Waste wood and cardboard are recycled at the Portland waste transfer station.

Our commitment to sustainability ensures a minimal environmental impact from start to finish - beginning with the extraction of raw materials and ending with recycling, waste treatment and the reintroduction of recovered materials into the production cycle and economic system. In addition to implementing material recycling practices in its manufacturing processes, ESCO's Green Team works to ensure continuously improving recycling and sustainability practices in the plant and office environments, in partnership with Waste Management and the City of Portland's Department of Sustainability.

Sustainability is a component of ESCO's business model and represents competitive practices and activities designed to achieve a functional balance of our workforce, our community and the environment - while producing strong and positive economic returns. ESCO ascribes to the "triple bottom line" ethos that recognizes and strives toward a balance of economic, environmental and social aspects. This is effective for ESCO in that it blends symbiotically with the company's commitment to lean principles and continuous improvement - which adds value to the products and services ESCO provides customers. In addition to several awards and recognitions linked to ESCO conscious sustainable practices, the company recently received the City of Portland's Annual Industrial Pretreatment Award.
