Portland General Electric provides electric service to about 43 percent of the population of the state of Oregon. We generate power as well as deliver it to our customers' homes and businesses. We really try to integrate sustainability into all our activities at all levels. Our customers tell us they are very interested in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and everything we can do to minimize our footprint on this planet. We think about it as we generate power, as we deliver power, and what we can do to have a minimal impact on the environment.

PGE is a heavily resourced-based industry, and being a good environmental steward has consistently been part of our history. We make business decisions that must stand the test of time.  We are constantly asking questions about how we're operating our system, because we know it has to be maintained for decades and generations to come. The choice we are making now is to build wind power at our Biglow Canyon project up in Sherman County. We're doing that because our customers are interested in it, because we think in the long term it will lower energy costs and it's just the right decision to be making for resources right now.

People are more interested in environmentally sustainable practices because people are more aware of the long-term health needs of a community. Healthy communities support healthy businesses, and healthy businesses support healthy communities.
