Downtown Retail and Marketing

The Alliance is leading the way to create a healthy retail environment - both downtown and throughout the region.

Programs like the Sidewalk Ambassadors, holiday lighting, Downtown Marketing Initiative, Portland "Big Deal" and other activities help Portland's Central City retain its title as one of America's best places to live, work, shop and play.

The Downtown Retail Council, made up of retailers, restaurateurs and hoteliers within the Business Improvement District (BID), provides the leadership to keep downtown vibrant and prosperous. The Council promotes and advocates for a successful downtown retail environment. The DRC also works with public and private partners to implement the Downtown Retail Strategy. Find out how to join the Downtown Retail Council.

Other popular marketing activities include our Dining Guide, which helps visitors and Portlanders alike find and enjoy downtown's favorite restaurants, bars and coffee houses. The Portland Sidewalk Ambassadors provide businesses, residents and tourists with information about downtown and the region. Our Holiday Lighting program creates a festive environment during the winter months by lighting the trees that line the sidewalks in the downtown core.
