Portland ranks number 16 out of a 100 metro areas for ‘clean’ economy jobs
Sizing the Clean Economy, which is based on the Brookings-Battelle Clean Economy Database, is a signature project of the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings. The database is a collaborative effort of Brookings Metro and the Battelle Technology Partnership Program and aims to explore the size, growth, and geography of the “clean” or green economy through the production of detailed data on U.S. establishments and workers engaged in producing goods and services that benefit the environment, especially in the nation’s large metropolitan areas. >br?More information >>

Sustainability at Work event incites dynamic discussions
Over 50 people gathered at the DoubleTree Hotel on April 6 for the Alliance's Sustainability at Work event to hear from a variety of experts and discuss what sustainability means within a workplace. Discussions focused on ideas around creating a 'sustainable' company culture and going beyond the basics such as recycling and reducing paper use.

Jeff Harvey, President and CEO of Burgerville, spoke about the importance of employee development and input and encouraging an environment where employees are at work because their company's mission statement has meaning to them. Additionally, Harvey talked about fostering an environment where 'breakdowns' are seen as opportunities, saying "If you look at the pathways to results, breakdowns are actually what you want because they tell you where to look to move forward."

Between presentations, attendees got the chance to interact during valuable exercises that covered creating benchmarks and goals and defining the metrics that can be used to quantify sustainability in business.

Many thanks to the Alliance's Sustainability Committee and the event sponsors:
